I wish that this surprised me. Hubby and I are still a way off from retiring, but have been debating the pluses and minuses of keeping vs denouncing our US citizenship. The obvious pluses are financial, but the biggest minus is traveling back to the US to visit family and friends.
I think you mean "renouncing", not "denouncing", though that's an interesting slip :)

It's a very, very hard choice for many people. From what I'm seeing, though, it's not that much of a political issue for people renouncing their citizenship. They're doing it because they simply can't afford to be Americans any more.
