My father's currently in Moscow and I happened to mention the reported violence level there. Here's a disturbing snippet of his response:
Reported in the English language "The Moscow Times" this morning is that 7 women have been strangled in Moscow this month. Police don't yet suspect a serial killer because of the differences in the crimes. Some strangled with bare hands, some with their own bras, some with purse straps. Reading further in the article, 2 other women have been murdered this month but they had been hit in the head. No one arrested yet.
I interpret that to mean that the Moscow police are too stupid to recognize the obvious (which I doubt), too strapped to devote resources to this (thus the denials), or worse, know better than to investigate this.
