What's your personal we/they dichotomy? Is it Republicans versus Democrats? Is it conservatives versus liberals? Maybe it's the US versus terrorists. The latter is difficult because the split doesn't incorporate everyone, but it's still a split and for many, it's an unbridgeable gulf.
That's the core of the problem. We start to identify too closely with someone or something and we forget that those who don't identify with it are human beings who have as much right to think and feel as we do.
If you refuse to understand that others have reasons for the way they think, you're part of the problem. If you refuse to understand that your personal viewpoint may very well be a function of geography or upbringing, you're part of the problem. If you refuse to understand that it's more than just "I'm smart and they're naive", you're part of the problem.
Our world today is in dire peril. Don't be part of the problem.
Update: wow. Sounding a little pompous today, ain't I?
