Hard at work

Lightning storm

One of the things that I missed moving from Texas to the Pacific Northwest was powerful thunder and lightning storms. Tonight, we were getting a bit of a treat in a lightning storm so I went out tried to get lucky snapping a few pics. Of course, I couldn't take a picture of the lightning, but I did get a few videos.

Video 1 (1.0 MB)
Video 2 (1.7 MB)
Video 3 (798.6 kB)
Video 4 (3.2 MB)
Video 5 (2.2 MB)

If you want a real treat, step through them one frame at a time.
I've tried for a long time to get good pictures of lightning (using digi cams). I think I have a camera capable of doing so now, since it allows me to keep the shutter open for up to 5 minutes or something crazy like that. However, all the good storms of late have happened while I've been at work and thus not prepared for time-lapse photography. :)

Anyway, this is the best I've done so far. Taken with my previous nikon digi cam at its max exposure time. As you can see from the exif data (5/22 sec), that max time is DAS POOP.

Happy birthday... Late...

I dig the lightning video. Made me want rain.
we had a big storm here with hail and tornados and stuff but we did not get blown away
Damn. I would have loved to have seen that, but then, my adventure junkie ways do tend to make me do stupid things at times. I'm surprised I've not hurt myself more seriously before.
